Out to Sea
How was your weekend? Do you have Columbus Day off? The kids do. Believe it or not, I think we’ll be going to the local rec pool to go swimming. Imagine that! We were out and about this weekend and yeup, I had my camera with me and I used this lens for all of them, it’s fast becoming one of my favorite lenses. The sailboat above, I just so happened to catch at my favorite lagoons. Love the colors, the clean lines and of course the sail boat.
11:30 a.m. Lagoon
One of the things I most often do when I’m at the beach is roam around. We were at Ko’Olina at 11:30 in the morning, bright, full sun overhead. I love to take in the air and the sounds of the water. I almost always look for composition. I can’t help it, it’s automatic for me. I think it’s my years of schooling in college for Interior Design and Architecture. I see the world around me in composition, color and texture. I almost always have something in my head of the finished product when I look in my viewfinder and snap the photo. I cross my fingers hoping it’ll translate. In the image above, I love the way the texture and color of the rocks, as well as the shape, meanders through the water and the sky. I find it to be fresh and clean, totally zen, very pleasing.

I love birds, skies and clouds. We were at Pua’ena Point for some late afternoon surfing and the sun was going down quick. I happened to see a flock of birds come across and I snapped this photo. Just some thing peaceful and tranquil about it. It’s untitled because I don’t know what to title it. Can you help me out? Leave a title suggestion in the comments area, if I choose your title for my image, I’ll snail mail you a small print. Does that sound like a sweet deal? Sunset at Pua’ena Point
So I’m sitting on the sand watching the sun fade into the horizon… the sun became a ball of fiery orange as it found it’s way behind the clouds. It was as if the clouds were draping itself around this orb, the colors reflecting out were just magical. I was really in awe. The surfers and paddle boarders paid no attention, they were just waiting for the waves. I caught this surfer riding a wave at just the right time. I love all the negative space that the beautiful sky provides in this composition and the wispy-ness of the clouds above provides an ethereal frame. Just unreal, but real because there it is. I really almost felt all teary knowing how fortunate I was to see the sun setting… it gets me every time I have these moments of pause.
