I recently tried out Buho Cantina in Waikiki. I love Mexican Food and I really can’t seem to get enough of it here in Oahu. There are a couple of places I frequent as my go to places but I always love to seek out and try new places too. Buho Cantina is located on the rooftop of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza and lends itself to a great dining experience and a superb view.
Located at the heart of Kalakaua Blvd, smack dab in the middle of Waikiki.

I was coming in to do an editorial spread for a magazine assignment and was lucky enough to try a small sampling of their best dishes.
Mexican Pork Lau Lau Cochinita Pibil: Baked pork shoulder, pineapple salsa, coconut lime rice, pickled red onion, cilantro, achiote paste, flour tortilla… look at that juicy pork!

Buho’s Yellowtail Ceviche: 2015 american cancer society’s “hope gala” award-winning ceviche. fresh yellowtail, serrano pepper, apple cider reduction, pickled watermelon rinds, candied jicama.. I think this was my favorite! I’m a light eater and love salads and this was very fresh and light on the palate. A very tasty, fresh dish.

This was the pork lau lau. The pork is slow cooked in the lau lau leef. Served with mango salsa, rice and warm tortillas.

Sauza Tequila Garlic Shrimp: Whole kauai shrimps, garlic, onion, cumin, sauza tequila, coconut lime rice, mango salsa… I love cumin. The cumin commingled with the coconut lime rice and mango salsa was a flavor infusion .. so good!!
