I had the pleasure of meeting Marilyn Lee at the elementary school where my children attend. We happened to be placed next to each other and the friendly people we are, we struck up a conversation. We talked a lot about our families and what brought us to Hawaii. My family being barely one year new to Hawaii and Marilyn’s family being here for years and years, roots deeply settled. I found out much later as I was driving around town that Marilyn is the incumbent running for our district State Rep. I saw her and her supporters holding up her campaign sign and I was like, “Hey! I knoooow Her!!” She contacted me to do her campaign photos which I was thrilled and excited to do. When her son Andrew and his family were visiting from the East Coast, she invited me to photograph them but most of all, meet a part of her heart that brings her much joy.
Most family’s want photo’s on the beach… Marilyn’s family is made, born and raised in Hawaii. The beach is yeah, just the beach. It meant more to Marilyn to take her photo’s of her family in the town they grew up in and in the house they were raised in. It was very apropos. We stayed around the house where Marilyn has many beautiful plants and greenery which she lovingly tended with her most loved late husband Sam. It was a feast for my eyes to see Marilyn’s garden as I love the native plants here in Oahu. Her grandson is a male model in the making. I was happy to see him be himself and just have fun with me and hang loose.
Marilyn’s beautiful family. They have their hands full!
This little one is at the age where she just needs her mamma and no one else. It was fun photographing all her different expressions.
Marilyn and her grandson. The bond between a grandparent and grandbabies are a very special one. I think it’s very important to take as many photographs together as you can. Time goes by too fast.
Very sweet.
We ended our session at the nearby school and park area where her kids went to school every morning. This particular morning was a very sweet morning. Marilyn is a walking encyclopedia of Mililani, Hawaii. Ask her anything, I dare you to stump her. Impossible!
Mahalo Marilyn and family for spending your morning with me, it was a pleasure! Sending you sunshine and Aloha to the East Coast Andrew and family!!
