We took a drive over to Chuns Reef Beach in the North Shore of Oahu. It was an overcast day and the ocean was spirited. Lots of surfers far out there, little tiny dots to my camera lens. It was just me and my family. I just wanted to take photos of my kids and the ocean. I am classic shoemaker. You know the story of the shoemaker and how his kids don’t have shoes. I don’t have a lot of photos of my family with my big pro camera. Lot’s on my camera phone, but not a lot on my pro camera. I take professional photos of vacationing and local families for a living and sometimes, I just don’t want to carry all that gear with me. On this day, I limited myself to my big pro camera and one lens so I didn’t break my back. Here are some highlights of our little drive out.
For the most part, my children cooperate when I’d like to take their photo. Not a photo shoot, but just taking photos when the mood strikes.
I like to take photos of everything. Different camera angles, different perspectives. The overcast skies lent a certain moodiness to the afternoon. I love Hawaiian palm trees. Especially when they line up like this.
My husband was in the mood for film photography. Yes, film, the kind you send out to get developed, not printed.
My oldest daughter set up the Go Pro. She likes to take self action shots.
That’s a rare shot of me in front of the camera. I am much more comfortable behind it. I gave my camera to my middle daughter, told her what to do. She might be following in my footsteps!
Chuns Reef is a gorgeous beach with expansive sand front. You never feel crowded here.
She’s a teenager now… smiling is kinda not the thing or not the mood of the moment. 🙂
I really love the green of the moss… the color of the sand and ocean was so beautifully soft. The overcast skies acts like a lovely softbox… everything is soft and pretty. I wouldn’t mind shooting a family for a lifestyle session here.
All he wanted to do was gather up sand into little balls and throw them against the rocks. Such a boy!
I have a fascination with these colors and textures.
I shot all of these images with my wide lens… I love the look of all of them.
My oldest daughter checking her Go Pro, me with my camera phone, my son and then my husband with his film camera and of course my middle daughter taking this shot with my pro camera. That’s us with all of our camera’s on an outing, it’s ridiculous when you think about it. Thank goodness it wasn’t sunset because I’d have my flash equipment with me.
Anyways, thanks for stopping by and checking out Chuns Reef. Put it on your “Places to Visit while on Oahu”. The view is breathtaking and the beach is gorgeous. Warmest Aloha, ~j
