Happy Monday! More from New Orleans… they are going through soo much right now and I’m hoping that you’ll want to make a vacation out of it and spend your vacation dollars there just from these fun, fun pics of my trip.
During the day.. there are a ton of people roaming the narrow streets, from different parts of the world, this is a pedestrian mall at Jackson Square, you will find artist’s selling their wares and of course street performers… we met people from Texas, Georgia, Japan. I am a very social person by nature and met a nice lady standing in line for the ladies room! She came from nearby Shreveport, Louisiana to spend her 30th anniversary, we had a lovely 5 minute conversation… Yes, I’ll talk to anyone, anywhere.
What I ADORED is the friendly nature of the people here. Lot’s of “How y’all doing today?” and “You’re from California?, Well, thank you for coming to visit us, how ya’ll likin’ it so far?.”… all said very genteely, sweet and with a genuine sparkle in their eyes. I can still hear their voices in my head.
We visited St. Louis Cathedral, at Jackson Square… Must. Go. Inside…. Simply beautiful…
There’s Dave in front of the church… at Jackson’s Square …
and that’s Andrew Jackson on his horse, hero of the Battle of New Orleans…
and that’s me, sitting on a fountain, in Jackson Square…. in case any of my photog friends are wondering… I didn’t bring my Kelly Moore bag , because I didn’t want to bring an “obvious camera bag”, besides, that’s my “work bag” and I love my Kelly Moore bag, I really do (you should get one, if you haven’t already). I took the strap and attached it to that bag you see there… and my back paid for it, ugh!
This city has an abundance of textures and colors.. it is rich in visual stimulation.. to come here and do photoshoots, I’d be in heaven. My only wish is that I would have loved to have a photographer follow David and I around and just candidly photograph us.. next time my buddy, Sean Norman will be tagging along, I think…. thanks for tweeting back Mr. Norman…
I mean, really now… look at these colors! Oh, the things I would do to photograph a couple here or even a family! Didn’t realize that I was drawn to these watermelon colors! Ha! And look at those doors… Plantation Shutter Doors… authentic… you’ll never see that here in California…
and the nightlife!… oh my stars… Bourbon Street… people everywhere… and as the night goes on…
even more people! Lots of loud, live music from every other bar on the street beckoning you to come in…
and it’s still hot and humid, but everyone is just having a good time…
even the mounted police…
It wasn’t even Mardi Gras…but soo many people up on the balconies holding beads and pointing to you, asking you to “lift up” for beads… I was in awe, I mean, only in this very place in the world could someone with a beer in one hand and cheap, plastic, sparkly beads on the other, can point to you and proposition you to lift up your shirt in exchange for beads… anywhere else, you’d slug ’em right? Ha, ha! Oh, the shenanigans and revelry that goes on here…
I’m so glad David’s co-worker Larry and his wife came out with us that night to explore the Bourbon Street nightlife, quite honestly, if they weren’t with us, we’d be back at the hotel watching CNN, because we’re cool like that.
Have a great Monday, y’all!
xo,
