If someone were to ask me… so what’s your style? I pause. Then I smile. Because I know what it is, in my head, I know what it is, sometimes it’s hard to express it because I find that passionate, creative people have a hard time finding the absolute right words to express themselves…. and that’s me. Often time, it’s easier to just show them what I’m talking about, but I know, you can’t always do that. So when I’m asked… a big smile comes to my face, my hands start wildly gesturing about and then I go on talking for an hour, if you have the time. In a nutshell, my style is one that captures the emotions between people and my images tell the story. For me, this is what sets myself apart from any other mom with a fancy camera. I’m just sayin’ because I happen to BE a mom with a fancy camera (and a handful of fancy lenses =).
So when Stacey gave me a call and wanted me to come over to take marketing headshots of her husband Leland I was really happy to do it. I said to Stacey, “We’ll have to bring the “it” out of Leland, whatever that “it” is, ” and we both laughed. Leland was great, especially with Stacey behind me doing what she does to bring the “it” out of Leland in front of my camera. Because, I get it, I don’t like to smile in front of the camera either, let alone a forced smile…despite the dreary day and the lack of lighting in their house, we worked it out…plus I snuck in a few photos of them. Stacey and Leland were my neighbors from my old neighborhood and they were the same as when I last saw them… happy, sweet, gracious, attentive to each other and very in love… their body language is so clear when they are together and that is one of the things I love about them most.
Stacey..if you are forwarding this on to Sophie… “Hi Soph! I hear you are doing an awesome job at UC!!, hope we’ll see each other soon, hope you are having a ball! xoxo!”
Oh and Stacey…remember our conversation about “It is what it is?” Well, it is what it is, lol…
Thanks you two for being so gracious and welcoming and letting us extend our stay by a few hours! It was fun hanging with ya!
xo,

The framing between the flowers on either side is spectacular. I love it 🙂
Jennifer, you are such a pleasure to work with, and we thoroughly enjoyed having you around doing “your thing.” We think you are VERY talented, especially given that you had to work with us – – we wish we were either: a) more photogenic; or b) better looking! LOL. Seriously, I agree with “it is what ‘it’ is” and I like “it.” Looking forward to our next Jennifer Brotchie photo session.
What a great couple! Looks like you got that ‘it’! 🙂
