When you come to New Orleans in May/June, you already know to expect the humidity, heat and 20 minute downpours… you should also expect 1. to pay at least $20 a day for parking, 2. great food and 3. tours. I highly suggest to book some tours. Most def. We went on a few… the cemetary walking tour through St. Louis Cemetary One was quite interesting. Our tour guide was full of information and he made it appararent his passion and preservation for his city…
Between David and I, we took about 500 images, so it’s just impossible to get them all here on the blog…. but here is just a taste… the above ground cemetaries…
One of the most popular voodoo priestesses was said to be buried here, Marie Laveau, she gets a lot of visitors that come and mark on her crypt. They aren’t supposed to but for some reason they believe if they mark her tomb with 3 x’s that somehow they will have good luck… our tour guide Adam goes ballistic over this. So don’t let him catch you doing that if you know what’s good for you…
It was just fantastic to learn about this fascinating place. We also went to Oak Alley Plantation… a cool bus ride to get us off our aching feet…
What’s gorgeous about it is the quarter mile canopy of 300 year old oak trees… it’s just Magnificent, with a capital M…
We roamed the grounds, David with a mint julep and myself with a lemonade julep- I’m a lightweight, lol…. and we also toured the plantation home. Interview with a Vampire was filmed here, so of course when we came home, we rented it and watched.
I love trees and I love photographing them, so this was right up my alley… if I could have scooped up all those trees and taken them home with me, I would have done it in a heartbeat.
There’s David in his safari gear… he was well prepared and shielded from the sun… it was actually quite smart of him… lots of the locals couldn’t figure out where he got the cool hat. Uh, California surf shop, of course!
We both had a fantastic time enjoying each other’s company… it had been awhile since we have been on a weekend sans kids…
New Orleans is definitely a sans kids, kind of place… above all the Food! Oh my stars, the food! Everything we touched to our lips was delectably delicious… which is why you have to go there for dinner!! Anywhere will do…
Braised pork… I mean, LOOK. AT. THAT!!!
Crawfish pasta… oh man! Culinary heaven…. our favorite was the bread pudding… manna from heaven!!!
Our favorite place, was this place, the Palace Cafe on Canal Street. We dined there the first night and the last night of my visit…. The outdoor seating is perfect for 2, balmy and breezy, excellent for people watching.
I spent 4 nights there and it was just enough for me. I had great, great fun, exploring all that is New Orleans… what a wonderful place!
Happy Friday Folks!
