My oldest daughter graduated high school in Hawaii a couple of years ago. We went to the assigned local portrait studio to take photos for the yearbook and was offered the option of the classic off the shoulder drape. In my mind, I knew that this was “the look” that I wanted to display in the house. Of course, we went rogue and did our own photoshoot for her senior pics and I was happy to order from the studio the off the should drape portrait for her house. I think it’s classic, traditional and timeless.
Fast forward to my middle daughters portrait studio experience. She is graduating here in California. We had already done our rogue photoshoot at the beach that you can see HERE and I was excited for her to have the classic off the shoulder drape portrait to be displayed next to her sisters portrait. Needless to say, I was disappointed to learn that they don’t do the off the shoulder drape portraits, they haven’t done “those in decades”. (Aww.. pain in the heart sadness). Oh well, in that case, we will have to do that look on our own. We found an off the shoulder top and we were set.
I shot a roll of film- 16 shots- and had a lot of fantastic images. Narrowed it down to one and the one up there at the beginning of this post is the final that we chose to go to print.. but I’m starting to prefer this one more (below), because I like her hair on both sides.

For those of you interested in the technicals.. I shot these with medium format Mamiya 645 AFD camera, Kodak Portra 400 film, box speed, one light to camera right and developed and scanned at RPL. Film is just so beautiful and truly everyone looks better on film!
