Redlands Photographer: Road Trip Joshua Tree
How are you? I’ve been doing fine. Trying to keep myself busy and active. All my kids are home for distance learning, my two high schoolers and my college kid, as well as my husband who has been working at home since March 2020. Here we are: January 2021.
Inland Empire Photographer: Joshua Tree Road Trip
We recently acquired an old 4×4 Suburban and have been taking it out on weekend road trips via Bureau of Land Management roads. On this day we went off the well worn path, through the desert floor and into the offroading vehicle only roads of Joshua Tree National Park. The Suburban did well 4×4’ing over rocky obstacles. I have an unreasonable fear of getting stuck without cell phone coverage and being stranded. It didn’t happen on this day and I had a nice time away from the house and crowds.
Redlands Family Photo Shoots: Off roading in Joshua Tree
You may come across some other off roading vehicles in passing… but not much busy-ness. We would take occasional breaks to stop and enjoy the scenery and take some photos. I shot these with my Yashica film camera. Yes, it’s actually square format, so cool, right? This is my son, he’s 15 and on the waterpolo team… although not sure when he will actually have his first game or if parents would be able to view it. (Sad Face).
Joshua Tree Off Roading on Film
It was a gorgeous sunny day, not a cloud in the sky. I shot these with Kodak Portra 400 boxspeed. I love the dusty blue sky and terrain…. that’s all there was out here!
Joshua Tree Valley Floor on Kodak Portra 400 Film
The valley terrain is pretty cool with the jagged mountains on either side. I think some people have off roading parties… this was a caravan of about 6 vehicles going through a narrow pass. One guy would get out and be the spotter telling the driver to go here or there, give it more gas, and encouraging cheers. From what I’ve read, off roading has gained an exponential growth in popularity this year for obvious reasons.
Redlands Family Photographer
I love taking photos from far away and every so often when I see something, I love taking a photo from very close as well. There is something so wonderful about these close up shots… ethereal and vulnerable.
