Redlands Film Photographer
These photos were taken in 2015 when we came on our yearly visits to California during the holidays. This is right about the time when I started photographing all personal memories with film. Shooting with a film camera was just more convenient for me. Was it being lazy? Maybe. It was deeply gratifying at the time and still is. What I love about shooting with film is that I don’t have to sit at my computer, cull and edit- which is just time consuming… especially, at the time, I professionally photographed vacationing families on Oahu. Shooting with my film camera was liberting… one and done. Compose the shot, dial in the settings, hit the shutter and that’s it. The more I used my film camera, the better I got and I didn’t have to rely on photoshop to fix my photos after the fact.. and no more taking 50 shots of the same subject from nuanced different angles. Anyways, 2015… ahhh.. those were the days.

San Francisco used to be my playground bk (before kids) and my husband and I were very excited to bring our kids to show them the city that we knew. Again, I’m talking about 2015. 2021 San Francisco is a lot different than 2015 San Francisco, in my opinion.

I always briefly enjoyed the business of city life to visit… I’m not a city person, I’m actually afraid of it. To visit and experience it briefly is an adventure for me and exciting to experience it with my kids.
Why I Love Shooting with Film
You will always find me taking some quick photos of pastries (love).

One place we had to take our kids to was FLAX Art and Supply. Unbeknownst to us, this was the last time we’d be visiting the Market Street location (see, things change a lot when you aren’t looking). When I was in college, this was the place for cool art supplies- before the days of cell phones and online ordering.
I had fun taking pictures of everything.
My oldest daughter was in heaven. She is an artist and went crazy for everything… it’s a feast for the eyes with all the colors and a feast for the hand touching all the textures.

She could have stayed there for weeks if we let her.
We ended our San Francisco day trip at Top of the World to see the view. My oldest kneeling with the backpack and my other two sitting on the wall. Again 2015… they have changed so much since then!
It’s fun looking through old pics and the flood of memories start coming… this is part of the magic of film photography. The memories taken don’t sit on a disk somewhere waiting to be chosen and waiting to be edited… it’s one and done.
