Print Your Photos: 10 Reasons

Why You Should Print Your Photos

I’m a professional photographer, so of course you would expect me to say that it is very important to print your photos.  I’m going to put my professional photographer hat down and put my Memory Making Mom hat on and try to persuade you to print your photos and get them off your phone.

Don’t print your photos for me, print your photos for YOU and YOUR FAMILY.  There is nothing better for me than to rummage through my moms albums and see pictures of her younger self, My younger self, my late grandparents, all of the people in my life that have touched my heart in one way or another.  Having a physical print allows you to have a glimpse of the past and immediately transport you to that time.

Print your photos because a physical print is definite and tangible.  Digital images are not.  There is nothing like a being able to hold, touch and feel a photograph.

Technology is somewhat unreliable and will become outdated eventually.  Remember the floppy disk? Most recently,  disk drives in laptops?  If you are one to store your digital files via external hard drive ,  realize that the longer your digital files live in there,  the possibility of recovering them becomes smaller and smaller as technology advances.

Speaking of external storage, I’ve worked with many families and newlyweds who prefer to receive their most precious memories on a disk or thumb drive, only to throw it in a drawer (sometimes unlabeled!!) and that’s where they stay, forgotten.

Physical prints can make a gorgeous visual impact on any homeowners wall.  I always tell my clients, the photographs that bring you much joy, makes you smile from ear to ear and takes you back to that moment are the ones you need to get printed and proudly displayed on your wall.

This goes without saying, but I’m gonna say it anyways… how many iPhones have you had with thousands of pictures still in it when the phone died, fell in the toilet, fell off the roof of your car and got run over and squashed?  Breaks my heart knowing all those photos in there waiting to be set free! Your phone will be replaced, but all those photos and memories will not be.

They make great gifts and your grandma and auntie would love to magnet it onto the fridge!  Can’t do that with a digital file!

Print your photos and you will be forced to curate your thousands of photos and print the ones that bring a smile to your face.

Print your photos so that your kids and grandkids have a photo of you and for heaven’s sake, a photo of themselves!!  For a snap happy generation, digital is not always better… I love that there is a resurgence in all things analog, from vinyl records,  the handwritten thank you card, going analog is cool… did you notice my Polaroid picture of my family at the beach at the beginning of this post?  I framed that photograph and it sits on my counter and it brings a smile to my face every time.

Lastly, cuz I need a number 10, let your .jpgs live and sing as a print… they are not meant to sit in a drawer lost and forgotten!  Print your photos!

I hope I have given you some good solid reasons to print your photos, it’s a message that is near and dear to my heart that I hope you will seriously consider.  In a future post, I will introduce you to my Polaroid cameras, the tool I use to instantly print my photos!
