We wanted to hike up to the top of Diamond Head on this day.. we had to get some drinks and drop off yesterday’s DVD’s at the store before we could head out. We only had 45 minutes to get to the park gate before they took their last group of hikers. I was getting anxious. Ohhhh, the traffic on this island. You just have to “go with it”. That’s what I keep telling myself. “If we don’t make it this week, we’ll make it next week… It’s not like we have a plane to catch and this will be a missed opportunity, Chiiiillll.” I find myself telling myself this kinda stuff a lot lately. Well, we did make it in time, but, the park was closed for construction at the entry so we couldn’t go on the hike. Man, was *I* disappointed. Ugh, sooo disappointed. I had been looking forward to this hike for awhile now. Instead, we just kept driving. Aimlessly. What do we do? Where do we go? Dunno. Let’s just drive until we find something interesting…. Alrighty then!
We happened on Kahala Beach… and I went on a photo walk and took photos of all the pretty flora I saw in this one little spot.
I wish I knew the names of just one of these pretty flowers… do You know the names?
They were on an abandoned lot and weren’t kept or anything. They were just wild and free.
As I was taking photos, my fam bam was exploring the beachfront…
They all wanted to go into the water, but we had no swimsuits or towels because we were expecting to go on a hike. Does it really matter? No, not really.. so they all went in with the clothes they had on. *They* did, as in my fam bam.. I stayed on shore, dry, breathing in the fresh air and the beautiful view.
We started some chit chat with this pretty little girls mom and dad and they were nice enough to let us dry off using their towels…. They were super duper nice and we’re meeting them for a picnic on the beach next month… Awesome right?! I hope you have some awesome plans this weekend! Us? I hope to hike up Diamond Head sometime this weekend… and I’m planning to make french toast Sunday morning.
Have a great weekend!
Much Aloha,
~j
The second flower photo (little spike-y balls with orange petals) is Leonotis leonurus (Lion’s Ear/Lion’s Mane/Lion’s Tail). We have one in our garden up the hill. We bought it from a nursery in the bay area. I didn’t know they are tropical wild flowers! 🙂
