Taken at Whole Foods Market.

I get asked many times what apps I use to take my iPhone photos with. I don’t always carry my professional camera with me but I always have my cell phone with me. I feel naked and lost if I don’t have my cell phone. My cell phone is my iPhone4s and it’s more like my everyday camera than anything else. There are so many everyday moments I take of my kids or interesting things I see wherever I go or things I just want to remember. I’m not always at the beach because frankly, I may live in a vacation paradise spot, but HELLO! I’m not on vacation every day!! I can see something at the grocery store and feel the need to take a snap of it, so I’ll whip out my iPhone, it also allows me to practice what I see and use it in composition.  I think it’s just awesome to live in a day and age where technology is literally at the tips of our fingers. All we need now really is to tele-port our bodies to where we want to go…

Aaaannnnyyywaaaaaay…. The above delicious cupcake was taken with the Hipstamatic app. I love this app. I bought it when it was fairly a new app and purchased all the lens packs it came with at the time. Every time a new lens pack comes out, I purchase it. The neat thing about it is that you have to use it like a real camera.. you pick the lens and the film and the flash if you want a flash. Take the picture, then you have to wait and see what you get. It’s total fun when you find the right lens/film combo that you love. The combo I used for the above scrumptacular cupcake is Libatique 73 lens, Pistil Film, No flash.

My absolute favorite, go to combo is Loftus Lens and DC  Film

I also love Loftus Lens with Blanko Freedom 13 Film when you prefer a clean no frame image.

Hipstamatic also takes some killer black and white images… I’m sorry I don’t remember what these combo’s are. Every now and then when my iPhone memory reaches capacity, I have to save my images onto my computer and clear out my iPhone library. Hipstamatic keeps the lens/film combo’s documented on every image you take so long as you keep them on your phone.  Clearly though, you can evoke emotions using this simple app.

Another app I use is Camera Awesome. I also purchased the whole kit and kaboodle and have access to all the filters, presets, textures and frames. I love it. In this app, you can take a snap with your camera and import it in to the app and manipulate it as you wish. What I like about this app is that you can tap two fingers on the screen and you get 2 targets, one for exposure and one for focus. You can easily achieve some slight bokeh with your image where your forefront image is in focus and your background fades out slightly.

This one is SnapSeed. This is a great app for landscapes… manipulating your image for dramatic scenery. This was a real image I captured and I brought it into SnapSeed and played around with it. I love the end result.

A great photo grid app I recently got turned onto is the Grid Lens app.  It’s got a pretty slick UI, but what I love about it is that you can choose how many boxes and what size you want.  The most I’ve done is 9 boxes.

This fun app is SketchBook Mobile. I love to bring my finished photo into the app and put in little notes and even draw little hearts on my photo. It’s super fun!

I also use Instagram, but I do find that more often than not, I’m using the apps I mentioned above and then importing them into Instagram to share.  If you’re on Instagram, follow my fun @jennbrotchie

I hope you enjoy these fun iPhone suggestions…. let me know in the comments box what you use, I’m always on the lookout for fun photo apps!

With Aloha,
