A few weeks ago David and I were in San Francisco to do some pre-wedding walk-throughs. Every time we are in San Francisco, we always make it a point to go somewhere and just take photographs. Obviously, it’s something that we both enjoy and to be able to do something together is that much more enjoyable. Of course, when the temperature drops and the wind kicks in, I like to stay warm in the car. The cold doesn’t bother David much, so he’s out much later than I am using the very last drop of sunlight available. On this night as I was waiting for him, I quickly thought to get my camera out and ask this couple if I could take a photo of them as the sun was setting. They looked at each other and said “Sure.” They were parked in the car next to mine and decided at the last moment to come out as well before the sun was completely gone. I captured the one above and the next three below before I headed back into the car, because it was BUH-RISK-LY cold for this brown skinned girl.
I thanked them kindly for obliging my request and quietly went back to my warm car and left them alone. It was clear they were getting all lovey dovey and heaven forbid, I would be the one to intrude. Anyway, as I was chimping through the shots I had taken, I looked up and there was the same couple.. but this time, the man got down on his knee as what appeared to be a proposal! As quickly as I could think, he got back up on both feet and they both hugged…. obviously she responded well to the question he had asked….. I couldn’t believe it… Hello! I’m a wedding photographer! I could not resist my urge not to document this…. I jumped out of my car and at a respectful distance got these next images….
I didn’t bring my flash so I did the best I could with what I had on hand… Afterwards I let them know that I was a professional photographer and that I’d be happy to give these images to them…. what a wonderful thing to be at the right place at the right time and to capture such a wonderful moment between two people… Wendy and Jose, I wish you all the best as you prepare to start your lives together.
