Very recently, I have taken up yoga. I had previously been doing a lot of running… nothing marathon mind blasting… but just enough distance to feel like I’ve gotten a workout, got my blood circulating, and just enough to feel a bit cleansed. I still love to run… but I also started to feel like I wasn’t centered, not focused… my body tired and tense. There are still soooo many things I want to do… soooo many things on my “want to do” list… but I needed to scale it back and take things one day at a time. That’s where yoga entered into my life. I feel like we’ve been dear friends from day one. I don’t go out to a studio or anything like that… I pop a DVD in and follow along in the quietness of my room, often times when the kids are at school or in bed for the night. I love the feeling of my muscles stretching and reaching new levels of flexibility. When I’m yoga-ing… I think of nothing else, but what I’m doing… feeling the stretch and letting it cleanse me… I always feel very fulfilled when I am through with my yoga workout. It has become something that I just “need” to do. One day without yoga and I feel tension setting back into my muscles.
My next step is to learn to cleanse my mind and find some mindfulness… find some center and focus in my mind, in my thoughts…. I’m very excited about what I will be finding.. excited to focus back inward as well. I think as busy people, mom’s, dad’s, single people, whatever your daily profession… it’s really good to take a step back and find some quiet moments to yourself and take some time for yourself. …. and really, just BREATHE once in awhile.
