KoOlina, Oahu Photographer
A lot of my clients lodge at the Disney Aulani Resort or The Marriot in KoOlina. Speaking of the Disney Aulani Resort, have you been there? It’s an awesome place for the kids… an aquatic play land for families with kids. If you could swing it, I’d highly recommend it. I stayed there one weekend for a “stay-cation”. We stayed in a suite and everything was nicely appointed. Next time I lodge there (if I am so fortunate), I will take photos to share. Disney Aulani Resort, The Four Seasons Hotel, Marriott’s KoOlina Beach Club and Marriott Beach Villas are all located here in KoOlina. It is a little tiny resort town that boasts a few wonderful restaurants, a few lovely gift shops and clothing stores and a world class golf course.
It is a nice little out of the way location, quiet enough to really relax and enjoy it’s famous three man made lagoons. Perfect if you don’t want to be anywhere near the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Anyway, when clients contact me for photo shoots, it’s been my experience that more than likely, they do not want to travel far for a scenic location. There is a little mother nature made lagoon that I like to take my clients too. It is in short walking distance from the Disney Aulani Resort (you don’t have to get in your car, just mosey over!). It offers beautiful blue skies on sunny days, breezy tilting palm trees, a far distance view of the Waianae Mountains, rocks and a lazy shoreline. These images on this post is that very place!!
When the tide is low and it is safe to cross, I like to take my families over to these rocks for some photo ops…. but only if it’s safe. Those rocks grow algae and it could get really slippery! I’ve seen plenty of people, adult men and women, kids and little ones lose their footing, do a little ice skating shuffle and fall hard. It’s the last thing I want to happen during our photo shoot, so if it is safe, I will totally suggest to head over there. Isn’t the blue sky gorgeous in contrast with the color of the rock?
The rocks stretch quite a ways so lots of space there… on this day (above) the tide was very low so we were able to shoot pretty close to the rocks for a little bit of texture in the shot. Beautiful!!
For the most part, this lagoon really looks like this. No, it is not green screen! LOL… THIS is real!! I know, it Amazes me too. On a sunny day, the skies, water, palm trees is just a beautiful backdrop for these family portrait photo sessions.
The open lagoon side is just a fantastic direction for these fun photos shots. Palm trees to the left and Waianae Mountain range in the far right distance. You really can’t go wrong.
Oahu Family Beach Photographer, Experience in Beautiful Portraits
I photograph morning AND sunset sessions here. It really is the perfect place and a lot of my clients have said to me that it speaks “Hawaii” when they are there. The palm trees… OH THE PALM TREES!!
Palm trees in the background and nice sandy sand to run around on.
An overcast sunset session with those beautiful palm trees in the back ground.
There is also a small span of tropical greenery if you like that sort of thing. I think it also gives a variety of backdrop, but believe me, I get it.. you come to Oahu and “let’s photograph more palm trees and ocean”.
Yes! This photo is still in the same location! This is a sunset photo session with some overcast skies on this late afternoon. We got palm trees, more lagoon to the left and pure ocean to the right. Can you picture yourself here?
Another beautiful family during a sunset session in the very same location as all these other images. The tide is a little more rougher, but it makes for a gorgeous image. Just look at those dramatic skies!! My most favorite sunset shoots are ones with some clouds… it really offers a dramatic sky during our portrait sessions. Trust me folks, I’m a professional, I know what I’m talking about! LOL.
Yes, another sunset photo portrait session… check that sky out! No photoshop here… promise! That was the sky, pinkish tones that night, just amazing right?!! You never know what the sunsetting sky will look like until it happens and I am just so darn excited to photograph it. I firmly believe, it’s just an awesome cherished memory of your vacation to Oahu. Perfect to have an enlargement hanging over your fireplace mantel to remind you of your wonderful family vacation.
I love being able to capture that sun going down… when you are in front of my camera and you hear and see me get excited about it, you know I nailed it! Yes, I can get pretty animated behind the camera, LOL.
Look at that sky and that tiny dot of sun! We had to move fast because that sky lasted for maybe less than 5 minutes… I am so happy it appeared and I captured it and photographed this family. We have so much fun during our family photo shoots!!
This was that sky from the family photo shoot above… Amazing right?
I hope this give you an idea of this particular location in KoOlina, very convenient to where you are lodging, perfect and beautiful for either a morning or sunset photo shoot with me. I will be blogging more about some of the other locations that I love to shoot at… but for now, I hope to meet with you soon on your vacation to Oahu and capture your own beach memories.
