Easy Hiking Trails On Oahu with Kids
One thing I love to do on Oahu is go on easy hikes. My parameters for an easy hike is not more than 1 hour to the destination, a pretty view and an hour back to the start. Anything other than these guidelines and I’m a big whiny baby. You will wish you have left me at home, I am not pleasant company if you keep hearing me say “Are we there yet?!” every 5 minutes, trust me. I’ve done a few very enjoyable hikes this year that I’ve shared on my blog. If you are interested, be sure to find the search bar located toward the end of the page on the left hand side and type in “Things to Do on Oahu” and you’ll find some of the hikes that I’ve gone on. This one is the Judd Trail that ends at the Jackass Pool.
We went in the morning and it was a quick one hour round trip. Find the marker on the trail that directs you to the pool, which is to your right. We missed the marker and went to the left and the trail took us vertical until we figured out “I don’t think is the right way”… and we headed back down, but not before taking some incredible photos of our little group. It happened to be Spring Break and my hiking buddy and I took our little squad with us.
A ton of these skinny trees, shooting straight up to the sky. The smell of the woodsy dew and the coolness in the air. All so beautiful.
Our biggie’s.
Some of the tree trunks had these ribbed rings on them… I’m guessing that each ring told you the tree’s age.
I found these carpet of velvety moss at the foot of some of the trees. I am a visual girl and I love the colors and textures… I’m a sucker for this stuff, which is why I love going on hikes even more. Oahu truly is a treasure trove.
I love the greens of the forest. Is this technically still a tropical forest? I’m not sure.. it was pretty woodsy to me and I didn’t hear any exotic monkeys or toucan birds chirping… I heard calm and peace.
Calm and peace until a little one needed some attention. Cutie ya?
Our little’s… the biggie’s were off on their own catching up, talking story.
This one belongs to me. 🙂
After maybe, 40 minutes of a pretty level, dry dirt hike, we ended up here… The Jackass Pool. Believe it or not, it’s connected to someone’s backyard! I’m happy that it’s open for nature lovin’ hikers, but honestly, I might be annoyed if that was in my backyard, pros and cons, ya?
We took a small break to enjoy the pool and had lunch… and of course, took some pictures.
This was really an easy hike. All level, no incline. Not muddy on this morning that we went… just watch your step where you are walking… lots of roots in the dirt so you don’t want to be tripping on these.
Our squad. Nice little number.. not too big, still manageable.
If you are looking for an easy hike with a nice little reward at the end, this is great hike for you. As always, please bring water, wear sunscreen and bug repellent… and a big REMINDER to take your trash with you. Please keep Oahu’s nature trails clean and beautiful so we can all enjoy them. Thanks for visiting my little corner of the internet! Warmest Aloha, ~j
