On Thanksgiving Day, my family and I hiked up to the Pillboxes in Lanikai. I’ve always wanted to do this hike and finally got to hike it. I only took my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone with me and took these phone snaps. Have I mentioned how much I love this phone? I LOVE this phone. It was perfect for capturing some memories of the hike. Here are some highlights.
The hike starts in a residential area with 4 designated parking spots. If you decide to do this hike, please be respectful of the homeowners in the area with where you park your car.
The hike starts with pretty steep uphill terrain and is a steady incline all the way up… but this is the view all the way as you are hiking up…
My daughter left her walking shoes at school, so I gave her mine and wore hers. I was extra careful because although these Converse are super cute, they have no tread on the bottom!!
Sad to see graffiti, but my oldest daughter found it to be a photo opportunity.
It was super windy the whole way up…. but I didn’t mind.. the wind provided some much needed air conditioning!
Can you see the Pillbox to the middle right? I’m not sure of the history, I’m sure you can google it… but the lookouts are referred to as Pillboxes. During the time of the war, these pillboxes served as lookouts for enemies approaching. There are 2 (I think).. We made it to the second one.
Amazing, breathtaking views.
We made it out without any tumbles and of course I took the opportunity to take some quick snaps of my kids against the beautiful landscaping.
Make sure you put the Pillbox hike on your To Do List if you want to do a little hiking. So happy I did it!! Warmest Aloha, ~j
