Oahu Film Photographer on an Easy Hike
Not long ago we went on a very short hike to the Kamehameha Summer Palace Ruins (Kaniakapupu Ruins). It was just the right amount of walking for me as lately it’s been so hot out that a long hike just wouldn’t do. It was still an adventure finding it but once we knew we were heading in the right direction it was well worth the little bit of heat.
There is a clearing on the side of the road (right image) that leads you to this tucked away hidden gem.
If you’ve visited my blog in the past, you will know that I take my 35mm film camera with me instead of my professional camera. It’s lighter in weight for me to carry around and once I finish a roll of film, I mail it out to my lab to get developed. I was very pleased how this roll turned out. I used Kodak Ektar 100 and I love how the colors are saturated and the tone of the images are visually creamy. Really my favorite film to shoot in Hawaii.
You follow the trail and once out of the clearing this is what you see. The facade of once used to be. The little history that is posted on the internet about it is fascinating.
I felt a lot of mana here roaming the grounds. The presence of the spirits can be felt.
I felt so small next to these ruins. It’s amazing to be so close to history.
I would definitely recommend this short, easy hike to explore a little bit of Hawaii’s rich history. Put it on your bucket list of “Things to Do-Places to See/Visit while on Oahu”. As always, please be respectful of the land.
Thanks for visiting!!

Awesome stuff and great photos! Would love to see the DLNR focus more on education of places like the ruins rather than trying to hide them from the public and close them off. It’s like securing your house with a screen door…that won’t stop bad people from doing bad things.
