Oahu Family Photographer
Several months ago we ventured to MuRyangSa Temple in Honolulu. We didn’t really know what it was but we knew we had to go exploring and check it out. It was a pleasant drive over, nestled in a little residential community high on a hill. I took my 35mm film camera with me and only shot film, Kodak Ektar 100 to be exact. I absolutely love the color rendering and tone on each and every image. The MuRyangSa Temple is a very tranquil, colorful spiritual place. You are free to quietly meander, pray, meditate, be at one with yourself. You should put a small donation in the donation box as you enter and be thankful that this beautiful place exists.
The grounds are beautifully manicured and everywhere you turned, your eyes just took in the lush greens and reds of this place.
I wish I knew more about the architecture. Look at those tiles! Each one painted with intricate, lovely designs in bright colors repeating itself down the row.
You can sit down on the bench there that is built into the architecture of the temple and gaze at the wall murals. Clay pots drying out in the sun and you can see the downtown Honolulu buildings in the distance.
My son was venturing off exploring and just taking in everything.
Little Buddhist statues lined up perfectly. Every statue is different.
There are two big temples, a courtyard and a beautiful garden and another smaller temple from what I recall.
You’re welcome to walk the grounds, but please do so respectfully and quietly (which I constantly had to remind my son of, but he was just excited to check everything out!)
Isn’t it gorgeous?
I walked around, meandered, sat, took in what was before me, meditated, said a few prayers and took pictures. Definitely a serene place to put on your “Places to Visit, Things to Do” Bucket List when you come to visit Oahu… if your idea of being at one is just to meditate and take a break from the beach and shopping. MuRyangSa Temple is a quick visit, stay as long or short as you like, leave a small donation and be thankful you are here. 🙂
