I was out at the Ko’Olina Lagoons the other day (actually, I am there quite frequently) and I wanted to practice shooting some film. Medium Format Film to be exact. Film has a different quality than digital and there definitely is an artistry to it. Lots of patience to get the right shot since you don’t have an LCD screen in the back of the camera to instantly see what you captured. With film, you have to get it developed and wait several days to see the results. Since I have been exploring and practicing with film, my professional work has been getting better and better. I still love digital photography, but I also love film photography. Here are some highlights of my day. Above are my girls exploring the edge of the rocks… beyond the rocks is straight Pacific Ocean.
It was a pretty hot day, full high noon sun, when I was shooting these.
I can just sit and gaze out into the ocean all day. Just bring me food and drink and move the umbrella so I’m under the shade, and I’ll be good to go.
My Bella. Just love this girl.
Before you get to the rocks, this is what you see. Expertly manicured landscapes framed with palm trees.
A view of the Disney Aulani Resort and Hotel. You can’t miss it, it’s the one that’s brown with the pointy arches.
One of the three busy man-made lagoons in Ko’Olina. It’s actually quite nice and not hustle and bustle like Waikiki can be.
How can I not subject my kids to posing for me. Lucky for me, growing up with a camera pointed at them, they are naturals.
Behind her is the JW Marriott Hotel and Spa. There’s a Starbucks in there and the only one you will find at the resort. You’re Welcome! 🙂
