Past clients of mine whom I photographed in Kauai for their wedding are expecting their first child. They graciously flew me over to the Big Island to have a maternity shoot of which turned out beautifully. Since the maternity shoot was in the morning, I decided to spend a girls day with my two daughters and check out a little bit of the island. We were on Kona side and most of what I noticed was all the black lava rock everywhere and maybe it was just me, but it was really hot there!! and a tad more humid than my home island of Oahu. .. but like I said, maybe it was just me! LOL.
This was the beach we photographed at. The landscaping bordering this beach is gorgeous with multi-million dollar homes surrounding it. I’m just guessing at the “multi-million dollars” but I’m sure I can make that kind of guess. There were about 4 sea turtles that were basking the morning I was there.
When I ask my kids if I can take a picture, they instinctively know what to do… I like that they snap to it, but I also find some humor in it. They immediately assume the position. 🙂 Look at the landscaping on the left image. Really gorgeous.
I have older pictures of my girls holding hands when they were tinier and younger… they are in their teens now and I’m happy that don’t scour and not want to hold hands. My good girls.
Pretty view, huh? But from where I was standing to take this photo, the sun was beating down on me. 🙂
We drove a little ways and there was a scenic turn off to check out. I haven’t been to Hilo side, but Kona side, at least this part where I was at, was dry… nothing but lava rock and ocean waaaaaay over there to one side and flat land with dry shrubs that meet the mountains on the other side, with a two lane highway in the middle. We didn’t have a whole lot of time to venture anywhere else and honestly, I just wanted to relax and have a nice lunch in an air conditioned swanky establishment over looking the ocean somewhere. That was my mission for the afternoon. I know I’m a photographer, but I took pictures on my food with my phone and not my professional camera. Go figure.. I think the heat was getting to me. Please forgive! 🙂

There I am! This beach had a lot of white coral rock mixed in with the black lava rock. It was a sight to see as I don’t normally see this combination. A big mix of salt and pepper mixed in with the vibrant blue of the ocean. For someone as visual as myself, I really enjoyed observing it. I took more photos, but I used my instant Polaroid Vintage camera and my fun Instax camera. I like to mix it up, but really, I could never decide on ONE camera and usually bring at least 3 with me, well 4 cameras if you want to include my phone. Welcome to my world!
