The countdown begins and I am scared!!! The end of the year celebrations started this past Sunday with my son’s 7th birthday… I mentioned earlier here that the end of the year events have me really busy if not just down right stressed. Birthday’s and holidays are crammed one after another ending on January 10, with my eldest daughter’s birthday. Sometimes I feel like I have no room to breathe. Every year I say that I should start planning in July but, riiiiight, that just never happens. ANYWAY… a mother’s duty is never ending and in the end, it’s the moments, the memories and the happiness that my kids remember…. because BELIEVE ME, they remember everything!
I made about 2 dozen red velvet cupcakes and gathered my kids to decorate them as scary monsters. I got the idea of a photo I saw on Flickr somewhere.. I can’t find it now. This mummy one was my favorite of the batch.
It took every bit of will power for my kids not to eat the decorating candy. They snuck an eyeball here and there… lots of “Don’t eat the eyeballs! We’re gonna run out!” from me, but I just had to keep reminding myself that this is SUPPOSED to be fun.. all the while keeping the floors and counter top as clean as can be (because we practically live on an ant hill and they smell sugar a mile away).
Voila!! 2 dozen scary monster cupcakes.. they were a big hit, all worth it!
We invited all the neighborhood kids that my kids play all the time with, to our driveway. They’ve made a lot of friends since we’ve moved here and this is a great neighborhood for our kids to play safely. It was great to meet the parents who are connected to these kids as well, good to know your neighbor’s and make friends. It’s just what we do in Hawaii… open up the garage, hang out, talk story, watch the keiki’s.
I think more kids came out when they saw the pinata… none of the kids were phased by the big fake rats I stuffed in it…
Jensen picked the cupcake he wanted to put his candle on and he made his wish… I wished that there was 2 of me so I could have taken more photo’s. All in all, it was a great party.. the kids had fun and most importantly, Jensen had fun with his friends and it really made him love Hawaii so much more.
I pulled together photos of Jensen for the last 7 years… I noticed that the last 2 years as my business has grown, I’ve taken less photo’s of my own kids and relied more on my camera phone. It really made me think how sad it was that as much as I love to take photo’s, there was a lacking of my own family memories. Time to turn that around. Anyway, it was fun to see these photo’s of my baby boy.
Happy Aloha Monday! ~j
