Best Oahu Family Photographer, Sunset Photo Shoots
One of the things that I absolutely love and specialize in is sunset photography. As the sun goes down, I love capturing you. I mean, look at that photo above… it IS spectacular if I may say so myself. Gorgeous sky, setting sun and gently crashing waves, who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Phenomenal. I’ll be honest with you, not every photographer can do it. Most photographer’s will tell you that they are “natural light” photographers, meaning that they will only photograph you when there is sunlight… Me? Jennifer Brotchie Photography will tell you that I can photograph you in sunlight as well as when the sun has already past the horizon… I LOVE IT, it’s my forte… the images I capture are absolutely magical. My sunset shoots are FOR REAL. There are NO sunset filtered backgrounds, NO photoshopping of fake sunset backgrounds, NO post processing or brushing in of sunset skies or sun, this IS IT …. my sunset shoots are FOR REAL people… don’t believe me? Book a shoot with me and experience a sunset photo shoot with me on Oahu, I’d love to photograph you. Here are some highlights of some sunset photo sessions that I have photographed….
Not every sunset in Hawaii is the same. Every time I go out to shoot a sunset session, the sky is different. Sometimes we have no sun at all, a totally overcast day or sometimes we have a very cloudless day like this image above.
Another fairly cloudless day where I took artistic license to showcase my engagement couple in a light silhouette. I love the warm glow of the sun.
Sunset photo shoots are perfect for surprise proposals! A few minutes before I shot this image, she said “YES!” to his surprise proposal.
An extended family of 36… Crazy right?! Actually, NOT crazy! LOL Lots of families come to vacation to Hawaii for wonderful “Vacations of a Lifetime” with their entire family. I love working with large families… the pace is fast because we are racing against the sun, but I get the job done and the finished images are amazing. I love this big group. The sun has set as you can see the color variations in the sky, not to mention the gorgeous silhouette of the palm trees. Call me, let’s hook up for these amazing photos!!
This late afternoon had a haze of clouds… remember, I told you earlier that Hawaiian sunsets are different everytime? You won’t always get the sun, but you WILL get some amazing skies, not matter what condition.
See what I mean? How PHENOMENAL is that sky? Different day, but same location as the image above it. Man, this stuff excites me, BIG TIME!!
Another cloudless day, but with a hint of pink right at the horizon line. Gorgeous view, right?!
It had been raining all day before we met up for this photo shoot, but stopped raining for the hour we met… ZERO sun… but amazing dramatic sky! So don’t count the day out just because it’s overcast.
I’m telling you… the families that I meet are fabulous! Everything about this sunset shoot was awesome.
Here’s another shoot where it was raining all day (an anniversary photo shoot, BTW)…. but stopped for just the hour we needed to shoot… and then just when we were finished, BOOM!! downpour of rain…. but MY GOSH! OOOOHHH, that delicious sky!!!
Grandparents love to get sunsets with their grandbabies! Love the pink hues in this sunset…
Love! + Baby! = SOOO CUTE!!!
One question I get asked all the time… I can’t decide between a morning shoot or sunset shoot, which should I do? Since this is a post on sunset shoots, let me explain why I would suggest a sunset shoot while you are on vacation on Oahu. Sunsets on Oahu, are unlike any other place on the planet… and yes, I am totally partial to what I’m saying. They are absolutely beautiful… typically, the tone of your photos are warmer in nature vs. the coolness of morning light.
When sunset conditions are favorable (meaning, no rain, overcast skies), as the sun sets you get this beautiful wonderful glow in your photographs.
Sunset photo shoots are later in the afternoon and the temperature gets cooler as the hour goes by during our shoot vs. the temperature getting hotter when we start in the morning… thus, less sweating and less squinting from the heat and the glare of the sun in our faces. Also, sunset shoots are held on the west side of the island. If you are staying in Waikiki or Kailua side, you’ll have to do a little driving, but it’s sooooo worth it!
Sunset shoots on Oahu are romantic… morning’s are too, don’t get me wrong… it all depends on you and your beloved, but something about sunset’s can make any girl swoon.
Sunset shoots are better for kids 5 years or older…. What?! When you have little ones and coming from the mainland, there is a time difference your little ones are adjusting to and sunset shoots are held an hour before sunset. After a full day of play in the sun, your keiki’s may tire out and the last thing they want to do is have a sunset shoot and take directions from me, mom or dad… cranky children make parents tense and it shows in the camera when all mom and dad want are pretty photos as a family (I have 3 of my own, so I’m talking from experience, been there, done that)… BUT!! YOU know your child better than me so it’s entirely up to you. Let the kids be kids is what I say, but save yourself some aggravation and consider a morning shoot with your youngin’s and when you come back a couple years later to Oahu, let’s hook up for a sunset shoot! Your keiki will be older and be more apt to not being so cranky (teenage angst is another thing, altogether, lol).
Sunset shoots are moments captured forever with your family and extended family, vacationing or local and of course engagements, surprise proposals, elopements and weddings…. surely not a sunset to pass up while you are vacationing here on Oahu. Hope this helps you and you contact me to shoot your sunset shoot on your next visit, I’d love to capture some beautiful photos of you all!! Warmest Aloha, ~jennifer
