Oahu Photographer, Waikiki Beach Photos
Are you vacationing on Oahu soon and thinking about having a photoshoot? YAY! I think you should!! Of course, I do!! Not long ago I did a blog post on family beach photo shoots near the Disney Aulani Resort in KoOlina. You can read about it HERE. I wanted to show you this wonderful location that I like to take my clients to who are lodging in Waikiki. It is just a 15 minute drive away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. But Jennifer, why would I want to drive here when I could take photos at Waikiki Beach?? Well, technically, you can’t take professional photos in Waikiki. You see, every professional, permitted and insured Hawaiian photographer needs to have a permit to shoot on the state’s approved list of beaches. Not all beaches are approved on this list and Waikiki Beach is not one of them. If you have ever been in Waikiki before, have you ever noticed how there is not one single professional photo shoot happening on the beach? Sure you might see tourists out with their cameras taking photos of each other, but that is totally different from a professional photo shoot. It would be fully embarrassing as a professional with their client to be stopped by the police and being handed over a citation for this violation. Not only that, Waikiki Beach is packed toe to toe with sun bathers. Why on earth would you want folks from all walks of life in their barely there skivvies in the background of your photos? Of course you wouldn’t… with all that being said… this beautiful south shore beach is just a few minutes away and perfect for those of you vacationing and lodging in Waikiki. Don’t have a car rental? No worries, plenty of taxi’s on the ready to take you here. After our shoot, take a short walk to Kahala Hotel and Resort and call for a cab at the concierge desk while admiring the beautifully decorated and designed lobby area. I got you covered, no worries!!
I wanted to show you how beautiful this beach is. It has patches of green grass with people-less sand, not to mention the palm trees here! It makes for beautiful family portraits!

This beach is perfect for family photo shoots, senior portraits, couples, maternity, engagements and elopements too. I love shooting here for morning shoots. On a bright beautiful day, it’s gorgeous.
With all the palm trees, I love to incorporate them in my images to frame my subject.
Senior Portraits on Oahu
You cannot go wrong with a morning beach photo shoot here. You cannot get this in Waikiki Beach. This is a quiet beach not at all crowded and it allows my clients to not be distracted by passer by’s who are people aimlessly walking into the shot, which can be annoying and distracting for any one.
Even on an overcast day, this beach is perfect for these photo shoots. I love that palm tree.

I always allow time to have some fun in the water. I love the blue skies and that blue water! Notice how the water is calm, not crashing over you and is ankle deep.
There out in the distance is more lush greenery and it frames my families perfectly…. The clouds in the sky and the calm water is perfect for families with little ones. A lot of clients who lodge in Waikiki and don’t want to venture too far love this beach.
Fun photoshoots on Oahu
Go out a little farther and the water is still calm, but at knee height now. Have I mentioned that I love when my clients wear color?! It’s so fun!
There is this concrete wall that juts out where my clients and I can have a little fun… and in the distance to the left is Koko Head. Just gorgeous!
The palm trees here are amazing… they make for gorgeously serene portraits, don’t you think?
With the green grass patches, the ocean and the palm trees, the sand level is also higher than the shore level… I don’t know how else to explain it.. you just have to go there to see it for yourself, but it makes a great place to take our very last shots… isn’t that family photo just perfect?
I hope this give you an idea of this particular location in the south shore, just a short drive away from Waikiki Beach.
