I wanted to talk about Silhouettes… I LOVE them.. and so do the families that I photograph.  They show off the beautiful landscape and sunset of Oahu and reveals a little bit about your family.  I don’t photograph silhouettes all the time because the atmosphere has to be just right.  Silhouettes are perfect when there are little to no clouds in the sky, it allows for a perfect canvas and makes your shadows stand out. .. but it doesn’t stop me from trying to attempt it if I see an opportunity.  The image above was taken in the North Shore and the clouds lent themselves to a pretty perfect composition.  I love when that happens!!

This was shot on the west side of the island…. the sun was setting and glowing and I had a quick moment to take the photo.. and it turned out fabulously!  Just love the fiery, vibrant sunset here.

Not a cloud in the sky with this shot… I thought the sunset was so gorgeous and I asked my clients to climb up on the rocks to get this shot.  Their daughter in the middle has the perfect profile.  Pretty special!

Larger families are fun, because it means I can play around more to see what I get… they were good sports!  There’s that big ominous cloud over head but there was enough horizontal empty space right at their heads with just enough sunlight glow to pull this shot off… composition is everything and it turned out beautifully!

For this one, I took a few steps back to capture everything… I love the palm tree silhouettes on the right, the outline of the mountains in the far background, the glistening of the water, the setting sun and of course the family.

This was just a beautiful scene and the clouds make for a beautiful, dramatic landscape.  Such a gorgeous family portrait!
